Recently I was accepted into the DC Universe Online MMORPG beta and when creating my characters I wanted to make sure they reflected my personal views.  As I’m always thinking of new ways to merge new media evangelization and my life I decided to create two heroes with names that reflect my faith, Seraphim and Metatron. Creating characters with the names of angels is one way I thought might be a way to spark conversation within the game as players can speak with each other.  Taking this one step further in games such as “World of Warcraft” guilds can be created and what better ways to bring like minded people together and hopefully spread The Word within these digital worlds.

In thinking about this the first thing that comes to mind is some digital character doing street corner preaching. What I actually envision is a ‘guild’ of people doing the normal adventuring that the game provides, but also taking time out to pray before going into battle or taking time out in a digital pub to speak about the faith.

I know this all sounds very unconventional, but I think as we move forward with the digital world and the real world converging we must think in these kind of terms.  At the same time we must always remember never to get so caught up in the digital world that we forgo our responsibilities in the real world.  There must always be a balance, but in striking this balance we must also find a way to live out our faith in both worlds.

Let me know what you think and if I get some good feedback I can touch on this again on the next podcast.
